The Institute of Grain Crops at the Xinjiang Academy of Agricultural Sciences (XAAS) was established in 1979. It is mainly engaged in the breeding of new varieties of grain crops such as wheat, corn, rice, beans, barley, oats, buckwheat, and sweet potatoes, research on high-yield cultivation of crops, and demonstration and promotion.
The institute has 7 scientific research laboratories: wheat crop research laboratory, corn breeding research laboratory, rice research laboratory, bean and grain research laboratory, comprehensive technology research laboratory, crop stress resistance research laboratory, and agricultural product processing research laboratory. There are 53 professional and technical personnel.
