The Institute of Horticulture at the Xinjiang Academy of Agricultural Sciences (XAAS) was established in 1979. It currently has ten innovation teams specializing in processing tomatoes, peppers, vegetable cultivation, red dates, walnuts, apples, grapes, almonds, pears, and apricots.
The institute focuses on horticultural crop germplasm resources and new variety cultivation, as well as high-quality and high-yield cultivation and processing technology. Research areas include the collection, evaluation, and utilization of specialty fruit trees, processing tomatoes, peppers, and other horticultural crop variety resources. The institute also works on the cultivation of high-quality, high-yield, and special new varieties, the integration of high-quality and facility cultivation technology, fruit processing technology, and product research and development. Additionally, it is involved in the demonstration and promotion of new varieties, new technologies, and new products, the transformation of research results, and technical training services. Through these efforts, the institute provides technical support for the sustainable development of the autonomous region’s horticultural industry and contributes to increasing farmers’ income.
At present, the institute has 56 employees.
