Shanxi Agricultural University (SXAU, previously Shanxi Academy of Agricultural Sciences)

Shanxi Agricultural University (SXAU) – 山西农业大学 was founded in 1907 as the private Mingxian School. In October 2019, the Shanxi Provincial Party Committee and Government decided to merge Shanxi Agricultural University with the Shanxi Academy of Agricultural Sciences into a new entity, Shanxi Agricultural University.

SXAU has two campuses—Taigu Campus and Taiyuan Longcheng Campus—and research institutes spread across the province. It includes 22 teaching units and 20 directly affiliated research institutes (centers). The university spans eight academic fields: agriculture, science, engineering, economics, management, humanities, law, and art, offering 71 undergraduate specialties. The university hosts one national key discipline in animal genetics, breeding, and reproduction, along with nine provincial key disciplines such as agricultural engineering, crop science, horticulture, agricultural resources & environment, plant protection, animal husbandry, veterinary medicine, forestry, and grassland science.

Currently, SXAU employs 1,349 full-time teachers and 1,938 full-time researchers, including 813 Ph.D. and postgraduate supervisors. The university has more than 27,000 full-time students. SXAU enjoys a long-standing partnership with Oberlin College in the United States and has established close exchanges with universities and institutions in over 10 countries. Notable collaborations include the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), National Weather Service in Zambia, Wageningen University in the Netherlands, University of Melbourne in Australia, Massey University in New Zealand, and the University of California, Davis, among others. SXAU currently hosts international students from Iran, India, and Pakistan.
