The 5th Sino-German Agricultural Week (DCAW) was held from 18 to 22 November 2019 at Landmark Hotel, Beijing. The event was sponsored by the Chinese Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs (MARA) and the German Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL) and organized by the Sino-German Agricultural Centre (DCZ).
On 18 November, two events – “Sino-German Workshop on Climate Change and Agriculture” and “Sino-German Workshop on Rural Land System Reform” – were held in parallel sessions.
All together about 160 participants from China and Germany, representing the governments, agribusiness enterprises and associations as well as researchers and experts from both sides, attended the events. Mr. Friedrich Wacker, Deputy Director General of the Department of International Cooperation and World Food Affairs, BMEL, Mr. Ulrich Kleinwechter, Division Head of BMEL and their Chinese counterparts, Mr. Li Bo, Deputy Director General of the Department of Science, Technology and Education of MARA, and Mr. Li Hongtao, Deputy Director of the Foreign Economic Cooperation Center (FECC) of MARA, delivered welcoming speeches on behalf of BMEL and MARA. Chinese and German experts and researchers involved in the cooperative research and policy dialogue, presented their research results, findings and policy recommendations. Following thematic presentations, best practices and experiences made in the two countries in the area of climate change adaptation and mitigation and land management were shared in panel discussions.

An outlook on future agricultural cooperation of China and Germany was also given. About 150 participants attended the open day sessions.
On 20 November DCZ organized two excursions to Beijing Dairy Cattle Center in Yanqing and to Beijing International Agricultural Science and Technology Park operated by Zhongnong Futong Co., LTD in Tongzhou. The aim was to give participants insights into Chinese climate change mitigation strategies with modern agricultural and environmentally friendly technologies. 47 participants from China and Germany joined the excursions.
