The challenges to ending hunger, food insecurity, and malnutrition keep growing. The 2022 FAO report suggests that the number of people unable to afford a healthy diet around the world rose by 112 million to almost 3.1 billion, reflecting the impacts of conflict, climate extremes, and economic shocks, combined with growing inequalities. To address these issues, governments must invest in agrifood systems in a more equitable and sustainable way. The report shows how available resources can be repurposed to incentivize sustainable production, supply, and consumption of nutritious foods, making healthy diets less costly and more affordable for all.
