The 2023 work program of Horizon Europe, the EU’s key funding program for research and innovation, is out. The work program for cluster 6 “Food, Bioeconomy, Natural Resources, Agriculture and Environment” includes 100 topics, proposing over 880 million EURO in funding. The 2023 calls open on 22 December 2022, deadlines for submission of projects are 22 February and 28 March 2023.
In cluster 6, international collaboration is strongly encouraged , in particular with China. Two topics will be particularly targeting EU-China international collaboration:
- Integrative forest management for multiple ecosystem services and enhanced biodiversity.
TOPIC ID: Horizon-CL6-2023-Biodiv-01-15 - Optimization of manure use along the management chain to mitigate GHG emissions and minimize nutrients/contaminants dispersion in the environment.

These two specific topics are part of the EU-China flagship initiative “Food, Agriculture and Biotechnologies (FAB)” and “Climate Change and Biodiversity (CCB)” in the context the administrative arrangement between the EU Commission and the Chinese Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST).
Unless explicitly stated otherwise, Chinese entities are eligible to participate also in other work program topics related to the flagship initiatives. Financial support to Chinese participants will be provided by MOST.
