In October 2022, the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) spelled out the target of building China into an agricultural power by the middle of the century. While the Chinese government has been long committed to modernizing its agriculture sector, this marks the first time the term “agricultural power” (nongye qiangguo) has been used.
