Institute of Agricultural Economics and Development (IAED)

The Institute of Agricultural Economics and Development (IAED) – 农业经济与发展研究所 was established in 1958. Specializing in agricultural economics and policy research, the main tasks of the Institute include developing research-based policy recommendations for central and local governments and providing consultative services for agricultural enterprises. IAED focuses on issues concerning agricultural and rural economy development strategy, agrotechnical economics, distribution of agricultural products and international trade, rural energy resources and environmental economics, food safety policy, rural poverty, policies of agricultural science, agricultural modernization, and regional development.

Currently, IAED has 122 employees and is organized into eight research departments:

  • Department of Agricultural Policy
  • Department of Agro-technical Economics
  • Department of Industrial Economics – Animal Husbandry Economics
  • Department of Industrial Economics – Plant Production Economics
  • Department of Rural Development
  • Department of Modern Agriculture
  • Department for International Trade and Economics
  • BRI Agriculture Research Institute

Additionally, IAED is home to:

  • Center for Agroproduct Safety and Security Policy
  • International Center for Agricultural and Rural Development
  • Center for Cross-Strait Agriculture
