The Institute of Apiculture Research (IAR) – 蜜蜂研究所 is China’s only national comprehensive research institute dedicated to apicultural science. Founded in 1958, the IAR/CAAS currently employs 107 staff members, including 28 professors and 32 associate professors. The Institute is home to 7 laboratories, focusing on a range of topics including:
- Bee resources and breeding
- Beekeeping and biotechnology
- Insect pollination and ecology
- Bee products
- Bee product quality and safety research and evaluation
The IAR also oversees the MARA Bee Product Quality Supervision, Inspection and Testing Center and the Apiculture Economics and Information Center. Additionally, the Apicultural Science Association of China is affiliated with the IAR.
