The Institute of Botany of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (IBCAS) – 植物研究所, is the oldest comprehensive research institution in plant sciences in China. Its origins trace back to the Jingsheng Biological Survey Institute, established in 1928, and the Peking Research Institute of Botany, established in 1929.
IBCAS includes 7 research and support departments and 8 field stations, of which 4 are national stations.
The institute also houses two national key laboratories: the State Key Laboratory of Systematic and Evolutionary Botany and the State Key Laboratory of Vegetation and Environmental Change.
It also includes three CAS key laboratories: the Key Laboratory of Plant Molecular Physiology, the Key Laboratory of Optoelectronics Biology, and the Key Laboratory of Northern Resource Plants.
IBCAS manages Asia’s largest herbarium, the Plant Science Data Center of CAS, the Ecological Grassland Husbandry Engineering Laboratory of CAS, the Public Technical Service Center, the Biological Branch of the China Ecosystem Research Network (CERN), several botanical gardens (including the Huaxia Alpine Botanical Garden), and the Documentation and Information Management Center.
