The Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research (IGSNRR) of CAS – 地理科学与自然资源研究所 was established in 1999 through the integration of the Institute of Geography of CAS (originally founded as the Chinese Institute of Geography in 1940) and the Natural Resources Comprehensive Investigation Committee of CAS (founded in 1956).
IGSNRR’s scientific research system consists of seven laboratories and three field stations:
Laboratories:
- National Key Laboratory of the Resource and Environmental Information System
- CAS Key Laboratory of the Land Surface Pattern and Simulation
- CAS Key Laboratory of the Regional Sustainable Development Analysis and Simulation
- CAS Key Laboratory of the Ecosystem Network Observation and Simulation
- CAS Key Laboratory of Land Water Cycle and Surface Process
- Key Laboratory of Resource Utilization and Environmental Restoration
- CAS Key Laboratory of Modern Agricultural Engineering of the Yellow River Delta
Field stations:
- Yucheng Comprehensive Experiment Station (Yucheng Station)
- Lhasa Ecological Research Station (Lhasa Station)
- Qianyanzhou Ecological Research Station (Qianyanzhou Station)
As of the end of 2022, IGSNRR has a total of 651 tenured employees, including 11 CAS or CAE academicians, 4 academicians of the World Academy of Sciences, 1 fellow of the Academia Europaea, 176 professors, 279 associate professors, and 133 assistant professors.
