The Kunming Institute of Botany (KIB) of CAS – 昆明植物研究所 focuses on research in botany and phytochemistry, with a commitment to exploring the world of plants, generating knowledge about them, and developing their sustainable use to benefit people.
The institute covers an area of 68 ha and has several key research divisions, including the State Key Laboratory of Photochemistry and Plant Resources in West China, the Key Laboratory for Plant Diversity and Biogeography of East Asia, the Key Laboratory of Economic Plants and Biotechnology, and the Germplasm Bank of Wild Species. KIB also manages two botanical gardens, one in Kunming and another in Lijiang. In addition, KIB collaborates with the World Agroforestry Center to establish the Centre for Mountain Ecosystem Studies.
