The Kunming Institute of Zoology (KIZ) – 昆明动物研究所, directly affiliated with CAS, is located in the Indo-Burma biodiversity hotspot. KIZ focuses on research in biodiversity, evolution, conservation, and the sustainable utilization of resources in southwestern China, the Eastern Himalayas, and Southeast Asia.
KIZ’s top research priorities include:
- Evolutionary genetics and reproduction
- Utilization, development, and conservation of animal genetic resources
- Genetic resources of domestic animals
- Animal models, human disease mechanisms, and pharmaceutical development
