The Poultry Institute (PI) of CAAS – 家禽研究所, also known as the Jiangsu Institute of Poultry Sciences, was founded in 1959. PI-CAAS is primarily focused on poultry genetic resources conservation, breeding and reproduction, breed performance evaluation, and the prevention and treatment of major poultry diseases. The institute has 147 employees, including 118 researchers, 19 professors, and 35 associate professors.
PI-CAAS is responsible for the State and Provincial Poultry Industry Technology Innovation Strategic Alliance and manages several national and provincial-level research platforms. These include:
- The National Chicken Genetic Resources (Jiangsu)
- The National Core Breeding Farm of Broilers
- The National Determination Station for Poultry Performance
- The Supervision, Inspection & Testing Center for Poultry Quality (Yangzhou) of MARA
- The Quality and Security Inspection Centre for Poultry Breeders of MARA
- Jiangsu Provincial Key Laboratory of Poultry Genetics & Breeding
- The Center for Efficiency Test and Safety Evaluation of Additives of MARA
- The Poultry Health Pharmaceutical Engineering Research Centre of Jiangsu Province
- China Domestic Animal Genetic Resources Dynamic Information Net
The institute maintains international academic exchanges and collaborations with universities in the US, Netherlands, Russia, and other countries, focusing on poultry resource promotion, disease-resistant breeding, and molecular biology technology.
