The Anhui Academy of Agricultural Sciences (AAAS) – 安徽省农业科学院 is a comprehensive agricultural research institution directly under the provincial government, founded in 1960. The academy includes 14 professional research institutes that focus on various fields such as crops, rice, tea, sericulture, cash crops, vegetables, horticulture, animal husbandry, veterinary medicine, aquaculture, soil and fertilizer, plant protection, agricultural product quality and safety, agricultural product processing, agricultural economics and information, as well as agricultural machinery and engineering.
AAAS also manages 16 ministerial-level science and technology innovation platforms, including the Crop Ecological Environment Safety Supervision and Testing Center of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs (MARA) and the International Joint Research Center for Rice Molecular Breeding, which is supported by the Ministry of Science and Technology. Additionally, there are several provincial-level science and technology innovation platforms such as the Key Laboratory of Horticultural Crop Germplasm Creation and Physiological and Ecological Studies of Anhui Province, the Engineering Laboratory of Microbial Fermentation and Functional Application of Food, and the Anhui Oilseed Rape Breeding Engineering and Technology Research Center.
AAAS operates multiple experimental fields, including the Lingjia Lake Comprehensive Experimental Field in Dingyuan County, the Agricultural Bioscience Comprehensive Experimental Building, and the repository of the Anhui Provincial Agricultural Germplasm Resource Center.
The academy employs 856 people, including 757 professional and technical personnel. AAAS has made significant contributions in areas such as rice breeding, wheat breeding, high-protein soybean breeding, vegetable breeding, crop gene editing technology, and pomegranate genomics research.
