The Animal Husbandry Research Institute at the Sichuan Academy of Agricultural Sciences (SAAS) serves as a livestock science and technology innovation center and talent training base. The institute is primarily engaged in animal husbandry and veterinary research in areas such as genetic breeding, biotechnology, feed nutrition, disease prevention and control, healthy breeding, and production systems. It focuses on the development of new technologies and products, as well as the training of livestock and veterinary technical personnel. The institute promotes modern animal husbandry production technologies and provides scientific and technological support for the development of modern animal husbandry in Sichuan and Southwest China, specializing in pig and poultry farming.
The institute has 10 research departments, including those focused on pig raising, poultry raising, rabbit raising, grass-fed livestock, feed, biotechnology, animal nutrition, veterinary medicine, and animal husbandry economy and production systems. It also has 5 administrative departments. The institute has established 23 national and provincial innovation platforms, such as the Key Laboratory of Animal Genetic Breeding in Sichuan Province and the Key Laboratory of Livestock and Poultry Bioproducts in Sichuan Province. The institute maintains 10 modern scientific research bases in the Provincial Animal Husbandry Hi-Tech Park, Jianyang, Lezhi, and Shuangliu. It also operates 249 extension service stations in large-scale farms across 20 cities and has founded two science and technology enterprises.
