Founded in 1986, the Animal Nutrition Institute at Sichuan Agricultural University (SAU) focuses on research related to the nutritional needs, metabolism, and regulation of pigs, poultry, herbivores, and aquatic animals. Its research areas also include feed nutritional value assessment, feed processing and preparation technology, as well as interdisciplinary fields like disease-resistant nutrition, molecular nutrition, and nutrition-microecology. In 2011, the institute relocated to the Chengdu campus, establishing a main hub in Chengdu while extending teaching and research operations to the Ya’an campus.
The institute houses the Key Laboratory of the Ministry of Education, the Key Laboratory of MARA (Regional), and the Sichuan Provincial Key Laboratory. It has also collaborated on over 50 international projects with more than 20 foreign institutions.
