The Biotechnology and Germplasm Resources Institute of Yunnan Academy of Agricultural Sciences (YAAS) focuses on research in the application of conservation biology for crop resources, molecular biology of crop resources, applied plant virology, crop biotechnology breeding, and the development of functional food crops, as well as distinctive edible and medicinal fungi. The aim of this research is to advance the bio-agricultural industry in the Yunnan plateau region.
The institute has established key research platforms, including the Key Laboratory of Agricultural Biotechnology of Yunnan Province and the Key Laboratory of Southwestern Crop Gene Resources and Germplasm Innovation, which is jointly supported by the Ministry of Agriculture of China. Additionally, the institute has two scientific and technological innovation teams at the Yunnan Provincial level, and one at the national level, supported by the Ministry of Agriculture of China.
