College of Environmental Sciences

The College of Environmental Sciences at Sichuan Agricultural University (SAU) was formed in 2015 through the merger of two departments and one institute: the Department of Environmental Science and Engineering, the Department of Meteorology and Ecology, and the Institute of Ecology and Environment from the former College of Resources and Environment. The college has around 70 full-time faculty members and includes three departments: the Department of Environmental Science, the Department of Environmental Engineering, and the Department of Environmental Ecological Engineering.

The college houses two key laboratories: the Key Laboratory of Agricultural Environmental Engineering in Sichuan Universities and the Key Laboratory of Soil Environmental Protection in Sichuan Province. Additionally, it operates the Ecological Environment Experimental Center and the Sichuan Rural Environmental Protection Engineering Technology Center. Its laboratories are equipped with advanced instruments, including a high-performance liquid chromatograph (HPLC), gas chromatography-mass spectrometer (GC-MS), ion chromatography analyzer (IC), and Fourier transform infrared spectrometer, among others.

Currently, the college trains approximately 1,185 undergraduates and 154 doctoral and master’s students. Its research focuses on critical environmental issues, particularly rural environmental protection and governance in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River. Key research areas include agricultural waste treatment and resource utilization, soil environmental protection and ecological restoration, environmental degradation and recovery, environmental planning and management, and protection and control of drinking water sources. Further areas of study include new environmental materials, renewable energy, and environmental information technologies.
