Founded in 1906, the College of Forestry at Sichuan Agricultural University (SAU) stands as one of the oldest forestry institutes, bringing together a diverse range of disciplines and research initiatives. It consists of four primary departments, covering forestry, soil and water conservation and desertification control, forest protection, and wood science and product design. The college is also home to specialized centers, including a Carbon Sink Research Center, a Medicinal Forestry Research and Development Center, and a Furniture and Interior Design Innovation and Engineering Center. Additional facilities include the Southwest Engineering and Technology Research Center for National Forestry and Grassland Red Bean Pine and the Southwest Fire Protection Research Center.
The college collaborates with national and international organizations through key facilities, including a training and exhibition center for bamboo and rattan under the International Organization for Bamboo and Rattan. Cutting-edge research is conducted in various laboratories, such as the State Forestry and Grassland Administration’s key laboratory for forest resources conservation and ecological security in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River, as well as the Sichuan Provincial Key Laboratory for Forestry Ecological Engineering. Other laboratories focus on areas such as forest protection, soil conservation, desertification control, wood industry, and furniture engineering.
With a faculty of 97 members, the college offers undergraduate programs in forestry, forest protection, soil and water conservation and desertification control, wood science and engineering, and product design with a focus on furniture and interior design. Over the past decade, its research has emphasized ecosystem restoration, the mechanisms of soil erosion, and comprehensive treatment technologies. Other key areas of focus include the selection and breeding of superior forest varieties, forest resource cultivation, and sustainable forest management. Through experimental demonstration and technology promotion, the college has contributed significantly to ecological conservation and the sustainable development of the upper reaches of the Yangtze River, providing scientific and technological support for regional environmental and economic stability.
