College of Humanities and Social Development

The College of Humanities and Social Development at Northwest Agriculture and Forestry University (NWAFU) traces its origins to the Agriculture Research Group of Northwest Agricultural College, founded in 1952. The college offers PhD programs in Sociology and master’s programs in Social Science, History of Science and Technology, Social Work, Rural Development, Law, and Public Management.

The college consists of four departments: the Department of Sociology and Social Work, the Department of Law, the Department of Public Administration, and the Institute of Chinese Agricultural History and Culture. It also hosts several ministerial and provincial-level research platforms, including the Key Laboratory of Traditional Agricultural Heritage of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, the Research Center for Chinese Agricultural History and Culture, the Collaborative Innovation Research Center for Rural Governance and Social Construction of Shaanxi Province, and the Agricultural Law and Environmental Law Research Center of Shaanxi Province.

The college has 90 faculty members and a student body of 800 PhD candidates and 1,000 undergraduate students.
