College of Veterinary Medicine

The School of Veterinary Medicine at Sichuan Agricultural University (SAU) traces its origins to the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Group, established by the Sichuan Higher Agricultural School in 1912, making it one of the earliest departments for animal husbandry and veterinary sciences in China. The school includes six teaching departments: Basic Veterinary Medicine, Preventive Veterinary Medicine, Clinical Veterinary Medicine, Pharmacy, Animal and Plant Quarantine, and Animal Medicine Immunology, as well as two teaching animal hospitals. It offers four undergraduate majors: Veterinary Medicine, Animal and Plant Quarantine, Pharmacy, and Pharmaceutical Preparations.

The school has 112 faculty members, including 41 professors and 37 associate professors. It is home to 16 ministerial and provincial scientific research platforms, such as the Engineering Research Center of Southwest Animal Disease Prevention and Control Technology (Ministry of Education), the Key Laboratory of Agricultural Bioinformatics (Ministry of Education), the National Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center for Animals, the Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) Certification Unit for Non-clinical Research of Veterinary Drugs (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs), and the Sichuan Key Laboratory of Animal Diseases and Human Health. The school also houses the International Joint Research Center for Animal Disease Prevention and Control.

The school is equipped with a public sharing platform for large-scale instruments and equipment, two biosafety level two laboratories, an SPF experimental animal barrier system, and two standard animal breeding houses. It operates 12 research institutions, including the Poultry Disease Prevention and Control Research Center, Animal Biotechnology Research Center, Swine Disease Research Center, Natural Medicine Research Center, and Animal Microecology Research Center.

The school maintains international collaborations with more than 10 foreign research institutes, including Purdue University (United States), the Pasteur Institute (France), the University of Perugia (Italy), the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment of North Rhine-Westphalia (Germany), Griffith University (Australia), and National Chung Hsing University (Taiwan), fostering global research exchanges and cooperation in veterinary science.
