The College of Veterinary Medicine at Northwest Agriculture and Forestry University (NWAFU) is one of the university’s traditional colleges, with a history dating back to 1936. In 1958, the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine was established, and in 2007, the College of Veterinary Medicine was officially founded.

The college currently has four teaching and research divisions: Clinical Veterinary Medicine, Basic Veterinary Medicine, Preventive Veterinary Medicine, and Animal Biological Technology. It hosts several key research platforms, including the Agricultural Ministry Key Laboratory of Reproductive Endocrine in Domestic Animals and Embryo Engineering, the National Stem Cell Engineering Laboratory, the Shaanxi BSL-3 Laboratory, the Animal Hospital of Northwest A&F University, Xi’an Pet Hospital, the Laboratory Animal Center, and the Animal Specimen Center.

The college has 120 faculty members and approximately 1,100 students. It has achieved significant research breakthroughs in animal medicine, animal biotechnology, animal embryo engineering, biological toxins and toxic diseases, domestic animal reproductive endocrinology, neurobiology, and livestock disease prevention and control. Notably, researchers at the college successfully produced a cloned goat from somatic cells and developed a group of cloned cows resistant to mastitis.
