The Economic Crop Breeding and Cultivation Research Institute of the Sichuan Academy of Agricultural Sciences (SAAS) was founded in 1936. It is mainly engaged in Chinese medicinal materials, peanuts, vegetables, tobacco, cotton, soybeans, germplasm resource innovation, breeding method research, new variety selection, cultivation technology research, plant protection technology research, biotechnology research, processing technology research, new product development, and consulting services for blueberries and other cash crops.
Currently, the institute includes the following centers:
- National Cotton Improvement Center Sichuan Branch
- National Traditional Chinese Medicine Industry Technology System Chengdu Comprehensive Experiment Station
- National Cotton Industry Technology System Sichuan Comprehensive Experiment Station
- Sichuan Province Traditional Chinese Medicine Planting Research Center
- Sichuan Academy of Agricultural Sciences Chinese Medicinal Materials Research Center
- Modern Tobacco Research Center of the Sichuan Academy of Agricultural Sciences
The institute also has specialized research laboratories for Chinese medicinal materials, peanuts, vegetables and legumes, tobacco, small berries, cultivation and plant protection, and biotechnology.
