The Fisheries Research Institute of the Sichuan Academy of Agricultural Sciences (SAAS) was founded in 1977 and is located in Chengdu and Yibin. The institute has research areas including fish resources, fishery environment, fish nutrition, and fish disease. It operates a national-level Iwahara carp breeding farm and Sichuan Changyuan Fishery Technology Co., Ltd.
The institute is primarily engaged in research on the biological characteristics of famous, special, excellent, and new fish varieties, as well as transplantation and domestication, variety selection, breeding technology, disease prevention and control, and nutrition and feed development. Additionally, it focuses on evaluating fishery environments and aquatic ecological diversity. The institute also offers technical consultation, technical services, and technical training in freshwater aquaculture. It is the only provincial-level professional fishery research institution in Sichuan Province.
