Established in 1960, the Guangdong Academy of Agricultural Sciences (GDAAS) – 广东农业科学院 is a leading agricultural research institution directly regulated by the People’s Government of Guangdong Province. Its origins trace back to a rice experimental station at Sun Yat-sen University, led by renowned agronomist Prof. Ying Ding, as well as the South China Institute of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, founded in 1956.
GDAAS comprises 15 specialized research institutes and centers, including:

- National Key Laboratory of Swine and Poultry Breeding Industry
- Cultivation Base of the National Key Laboratory of Agricultural Product Processing
- National Local Joint Engineering Research Center of Tropical and Subtropical Fruit and Vegetable Processing Technology
- National Germplasm Resources Nurseries for wild rice, sweet potato, litchi, banana, moringa, tea tree, and mulberry
- National Agricultural Environmental Microbial Germplasm Resource Bank (Guangdong)
- National Rice Improvement Center, Guangzhou Branch
- National Oilseed Improvement Center, Southern Peanut Center

In addition, GDAAS has established 17 local branches of the Academy of Agricultural Sciences (modern agriculture promotion centers), 100 expert workstations, and several specialized research institutes across Guangdong Province. Through its network of collaborative agricultural science and technology services, the academy provides support across all major agro-ecological regions in the province.
To facilitate technological transformation and commercialization, GDAAS has developed the Guangdong Provincial Agricultural Science and Technology Achievement Transformation Service Platform and founded Guangdong Jinying Agricultural Science and Technology Incubation Co.. The academy has also organized expert service groups dedicated to modern agricultural industries, further strengthening research, innovation, and development in the region.
