The Guizhou Provincial Aquatic Research Institute of Guizhou Academy of Agricultural Sciences was founded in October 1980. There are 69 employees. The institute carries out fishery natural resources investigation, research and development, and utilization, as well as fishery water quality testing. It is responsible for the introduction and selection of new varieties of fish and other high-quality aquatic species, fish fry and fish breeding, and aquaculture disease prevention and treatment. The institute also conducts research on pond fish farming, running water fish farming, ecological fishery, facility fishery, rice-field integrated aquaculture, ecological fishery on large water surfaces, aquatic product processing and storage, and other ancillary technology research, including fish medicine and feed development. It focuses on the demonstration and promotion of new varieties and products, training and consultation on new aquaculture technologies, popularization of science education, and domestic and international technical exchanges and cooperation. Additionally, it assists relevant departments in formulating product quality standards for aquaculture technology at the provincial level.
The institute is a provincial scientific research institution for public welfare engaged in the research and promotion of freshwater aquaculture technology. It is the Guiyang Comprehensive Experimental Station of the National Bulk Freshwater Fish Industry Technology System, the Guiyang Comprehensive Experimental Station of the National Specialty Freshwater Fish Industry Technology System, and the relying unit of the Provincial Specialty Aquaculture Industry Technology System.
