The Henan Provincial Academy of Agricultural Sciences – 河南省农业科学院 is a comprehensive agricultural research institution directly under the provincial government. Following an institutional reform, the academy now operates 24 departments. Its research areas encompass wheat, corn, peanuts, soybeans, sesame, and other major grain and oil crops, as well as vegetables, horticulture, tobacco, edible fungi, Chinese herbal medicine, forestry, aquaculture, mulberry silkworms, and other specialty industries. The academy also focuses on livestock and poultry breeding and disease prevention, integrated pest and weed management, plant nutrition, resources and environmental studies, agricultural products processing, quality and safety, as well as agricultural economics and rural development. Additionally, it has 30 county-level experiment stations.
The academy employs 921 staff members, including 129 researchers, 349 associate researchers, 346 PhD holders, and 559 research assistants. Its research is particularly strong in the genetic breeding of wheat, maize, peanuts, sesame, and other major crops, as well as animal diseases and agricultural rural development. The academy is well known for its achievements in peanut distant hybrid breeding technology and sesame genomics research.
