Founded in 1987, the Horticulture Research Institute of the Sichuan Academy of Agricultural Sciences (formerly known as the Seedling Research Center) is the only provincial-level scientific research unit in Sichuan Province dedicated to horticultural crop research. The institute has 7 professional departments, including the Fruit Tree Research Center, Vegetable Research Center, and Flower Research Center, and currently employs 67 people. It is primarily focused on basic and applied research on horticultural crops such as fruit trees, vegetables, and flowers, as well as the application and promotion of high-quality and efficient cultivation technologies.
The institute has established several research platforms, including the “Key Laboratory of Horticultural Crop Biology and Germplasm Creation in the Southwest Region of the Ministry of Agriculture”, the “National Southwest Characteristic Horticultural Crop Germplasm Resource Garden in Chengdu, Sichuan Province”, and the “National and Local Joint Engineering Laboratory for Citrus Breeding and Cultivation”. Other key platforms include the “Sichuan Provincial Key Laboratory of Vegetable Germplasm and Variety Innovation” and the “National Modern Agricultural Industry Technology System Comprehensive Experiment Station”.
