The Hubei Biopesticide Engineering Research Center, part of the Hubei Academy of Agricultural Sciences, is one of the first institutions in China to conduct microbial pesticide research and among the earliest to achieve industrialization in the biopesticide sector. It was also the first to engage in international cooperation on biopesticides. The center has developed the most comprehensive research and development service system for biopesticides in the country.
The center is composed of five research laboratories: Microbial Pesticide Resources, Fermentation Engineering, Biological Prevention and Control Technology, Bioconversion and Catalysis, and Green Chemical Synthesis. It is supported by three national platforms, including the National Biopesticide Engineering Technology Center and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs Microbial Pesticides Engineering Technology Center. Additionally, it has six provincial and ministerial platforms, such as the Key Laboratory of Microbial Pesticide Creation under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, and nine cooperative R&D platforms, including the Syngenta Natural Products Joint Innovation Center.
Since its establishment in 1994, the center has developed over nearly 30 years, focusing on three key disciplines: microbial resource discovery, microbial engineering development, and microbial agricultural application. It has successfully integrated production with research, forming a core advantage in microbial pesticide engineering and international collaboration.
