The Hunan Agricultural Biotechnology Research Institute at the Hunan Academy of Agricultural Sciences (HUNAAS) was established in October 2014, focusing on plant protection biotechnology and crop genetic breeding biotechnology. The institute is equipped with three research laboratories: Weed Science, Pesticide Biochemistry, and Microbiology. Additionally, it operates two major scientific research platforms: the “Hunan Provincial Key Laboratory of Weed Biology and Safe Prevention and Control” and the “Hunan Provincial Academy of Agricultural Sciences Crop Hybrid Seed Quality Inspection Center.” The institute is also home to several specialized teams, such as the “MARA’s Scientific Research Outstanding Talents and Their Innovative Team for Safe and Efficient Prevention and Control of Weeds in Agricultural Fields” and the “Pesticide Biochemistry Hunan Academy of Agricultural Sciences Innovation Team.” It currently has 34 employees.
The institute is home to China’s only provincial and ministerial-level key laboratory in weed science, the “Hunan Provincial Key Laboratory of Weed Biology and Safe Prevention and Control,” focusing on the molecular mechanisms of resistance to chemical herbicides, the control of herbicide pests, and the development of plant-origin herbicides. Additionally, the “Crop Hybrid Seed Quality Inspection Center” has been applying “Microsatellite Molecular Marker (SSR) Technology for Rapid Identification of Hybrid Rice Seed Purity” for years, providing technical services to over 500 seed enterprises.
