Hunan Aquatic Seed Farm

The Hunan Aquatic Seed Farm at the Hunan Academy of Agricultural Sciences (HUNAAS) was established in 2012 through the merger of three national aquatic seed farms. Its main functions include the collection, cultivation, and preservation of aquatic seeds, as well as the selection and promotion of aquatic breeding varieties. The farm also conducts research on the preservation and genetic improvement of aquatic germplasm, including the four major carps, mandarin fish, Chinese soft-shelled turtle, and tortoise. Additionally, it provides professional technology promotion, training education, and related social services. The designed production capacity includes 3,000 sets of parent stock of the “four major carps”, 10,000 parent stock of Chinese soft-shelled turtles, and 14,000 parent stock of mandarin fish. The farm serves as a demonstration farm for healthy aquaculture of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs (MARA), a national modern fishery seed industry demonstration farm, and a national leisure fishery demonstration base. It currently employs 16 staff members.
