The Hunan Crop Research Institute at the Hunan Academy of Agricultural Sciences (HUNAAS) was founded in 1973. The institute has 78 employees and operates five specialized scientific research teams focused on oilseed rape, corn, soybean, sweet potato, and specialty grain and oil crops. The research areas include germplasm innovation, cultivation technology, and the comprehensive utilization of oilseed and dry grain crops.
The institute is home to several key platforms, such as the National Germplasm Resource Platform in Hunan, the Hunan Engineering Research Center for the Utilization of Hybrid Advantage of Oilseed Rape, the Hunan Oilseed Rape Engineering and Technology Center, the Hunan Sweet Potato Engineering and Technology Center, and the Hunan Dry Grain and Oilseed Crops Germplasm Resource Conservation Center. It also operates the National Comprehensive Experimental Station of the National Modern Agricultural Industrial Technology System (Oilseed Rape, Sweet Potato, and Corn), along with the Provincial Comprehensive Experimental Station for Modern Agricultural Industrial Technology System (Oilseed Rape, Dry Grain, Corn).
