The Hunan Horticulture Research Institute at the Hunan Academy of Agricultural Sciences (HUNAAS) originated from the Horticultural Section of the Hunan Agricultural Experiment Field established in 1929. The institute primarily focuses on scientific research related to the evaluation and innovation of germplasm resources for fruit trees and ornamental horticultural plants, the selection and promotion of new varieties, high-efficiency cultivation techniques, biotechnology, and the planning and design of recreational agriculture and rural tourism.
The institute has five key research teams: Citrus Resources and Breeding, Citrus Cultivation, Deciduous Fruit Tree, Fruit Tree Plant Protection, and Flower and Leisure Agriculture. It manages 680 mu of scientific research test and demonstration bases, 17,000 square meters of smart greenhouses, and a science popularization training center covering over 8,000 square meters. The institute also operates several national and regional research platforms, including the National Science Popularization Education Base, the National Science and Technology Dispatchers’ Entrepreneurship Training Base, and the Key Laboratory of Innovation and Comprehensive Utilization of Landscape Floricultural Germplasm in Hunan.
