The Hunan Institute for Plant Protection at the Hunan Academy of Agricultural Sciences (HUNAAS) was founded in 1973. The institute focuses on plant pathology, agricultural insect and pest control, weed biology, and integrated pest management. Its research areas include microbial pesticide development and application, plant protection biotechnology, pesticide science applications, crop resistance identification, and pest and disease control technologies. The institute also provides technical services in pesticide registration, field efficacy, indoor bioassay, residue analysis, environmental behavior, environmental toxicology, and crop resistance testing.
Additionally, the institute undertakes professional training in crop plant protection, hosts academic exchanges, and fosters the development of plant protection agricultural science and technology professionals as well as practical rural talents. The institute currently employs 72 staff members.
