Hunan Soil and Fertilizer Research Institute

The Hunan Soil and Fertilizer Research Institute at the Hunan Academy of Agricultural Sciences (HUNAAS) was established in 1973 and has 72 employees. The institute operates seven research laboratories, focusing on soil resources, plant nutrition, farming ecology, ecological environment, resource utilization and product creation, sorghum, and agrochemical testing.

The primary research areas of the institute include sustainable soil resource use, plant nutrition and fertilization, modern farming systems, farmland ecological environment, agro-meteorological disaster prevention and control, efficient water resource use, green manure, sorghum breeding and cultivation, waste resource recycling, agricultural microbial technology, and the development and application of new fertilizers and technologies.

The institute hosts several key national and provincial scientific research platforms, such as the Key Laboratory of Agricultural Environment in the Middle Reaches of the Yangtze River Plain, the Hunan Cultivated Land Conservation Scientific Observation Experiment Station, the National Soil Quality Observation Experiment Station in Changsha, and other national and provincial research, testing, and innovation platforms, including the Cultivation and Soil Fertilizer Research Laboratory of the National Green Fertilizer Industry Technology System, the Hunan Provincial New Fertilizer Engineering Technology Research Center, the Long-term Positioning Observation and Experiment Station for Heavy Metal Remediation in Nanzhou Town, and the Hunan Provincial Soil Resources Exhibition Center, among others..
