The Hunan Tea Research Institute at the Hunan Academy of Agricultural Sciences (HUNAAS) was founded in 1928 and is dedicated to tea research and innovation. The institute employs 93 staff members and focuses on four major research areas: tea germplasm resources and genetic breeding, efficient cultivation techniques, green pest and disease prevention, and tea processing and comprehensive utilization.
The institute conducts extensive research on tea germplasm resource collection, breeding, ecological pest control in tea plantations, green manure applications, mechanized tea harvesting, processing automation, and technology transfer. It also specializes in golden tea research and the promotion of advanced tea production techniques.
