The Hunan Vegetable Research Institute at the Hunan Academy of Agricultural Sciences (HUNAAS) was founded in 1988. The institute employs 85 people and has established 6 key disciplinary research teams focusing on eggplant, melon, leafy vegetables, cultivation technology, germplasm resources, and biotechnology. The institute boasts two national research platforms, three provincial and ministerial research platforms, and one municipal research platform. Additionally, it operates a test base spanning over 150 acres, with 7,200 square meters of continuous greenhouses and a laboratory area exceeding 1,200 square meters.
The research team specializes in vegetable germplasm evaluation and innovation, new variety selection and promotion, cultivation technology, and biotechnology. Among these, the research on pepper germplasm collection and evaluation, as well as the development of disease-resistant and anti-stress varieties, is internationally recognized as being at the leading edge.
