The Institute for Agricultural Resources and Environment of the Tibet Academy of Agricultural and Animal Husbandry Sciences (TAAAS) was established in 2012, based on the original Soil and Fertilizer Research Laboratory and Farming Research Laboratory of the Agricultural Research Institute. The institute currently has 24 employees. It operates five research laboratories, including those focused on soil fertilizer, farming, agricultural environmental engineering, agricultural ecology, and agricultural meteorology.
In terms of scientific research, the institute relies on platforms such as the Shigatse Comprehensive Experiment Station of the National Oat and Buckwheat Industry Technology System. It has also promoted the development of additional research platforms, including the Western Tibet Dryland Agriculture Comprehensive Research Experimental Station, the Southeast Tibet Ecological Agriculture Research Experimental Station, and the Agricultural Ecological Environment Field Observation Station.
The institute’s research focuses on key issues related to the protection and utilization of agricultural resources on the Tibetan Plateau, agricultural environment remediation and restoration, agricultural pollution monitoring, and agricultural waste recycling. Additionally, it conducts research on plateau agricultural climate and agricultural disaster prevention. The work of the institute aims to make fundamental, strategic, and forward-looking contributions to ensuring the quality and safety of Tibetan agricultural products, as well as to promoting ecological security and sustainable agricultural development on the Tibetan Plateau.
