The Economic Crops Research Institute of the Hubei Academy of Agricultural Sciences was established in December 2004. Its research focuses on major economic crops, including cotton, vegetables, sericulture, strawberries, flowers, edible fungi, and others. The institute is dedicated to new variety selection and breeding, developing high-yield and efficient cultivation technology models, and conducting research on common and key technologies, all aimed at providing scientific and technological support for the province’s cash crop production.
The institute has 96 active employees, including 52 individuals holding senior titles and 38 with doctoral degrees. It operates 15 provincial and ministerial platforms, such as the Key Laboratory of Cotton Biology and Genetic Breeding in the Middle Reach of the Yangtze River, affiliated with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, and the Hubei Engineering and Technology Research Center for Horticultural Crops Introduction and Development and Utilization.
