The Institute for Tropical and Subtropical Economic Crops of the Yunnan Academy of Agricultural Sciences (YAAS) was established in 1953. It is a provincial public welfare agricultural research institution dedicated to the research and utilization of tropical biological resources. The Institute’s main research focus is on a variety of resources, including rubber trees, macadamia nuts, tropical fruits, tropical flowers, chorizo, noni, and porcini mushrooms. Key areas of research include germplasm resource evaluation and innovation, selection and breeding of superior seeds, environmentally friendly planting techniques, agroforestry ecosystem construction, pest and disease monitoring and control, as well as the processing technology for tropical agricultural products. The Institute also conducts experimental demonstrations and science popularization initiatives. Currently, the Institute employs 339 individuals.
