The Institute of Agricultural Products Processing and Nuclear Agricultural Technology of the Hubei Academy of Agricultural Sciences is a provincial scientific research institution founded in 1959. The institute specializes in the storage and processing of agricultural products and the application of nuclear technology in agriculture. It is located on South Lake Avenue in Wuhan, covering an area of 35 mu.
The institute is organized into five research sections, which include Grain and Fruits and Vegetables, Livestock and Aquatic Products, Functional Foods, Nuclear Agrotechnology, and an Irradiation Center. It operates five research laboratories. There are 53 employees at the institute, including 3 post-doctoral fellows, and 21 of its staff hold Ph.D. degrees.
The institute has four ministerial-level platforms: the Key Laboratory of Cold Chain Logistics Technology for Agricultural Products under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, the National Public Service Demonstration Platform for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises, the National Research and Development Sub-center for Edible Mushroom Processing Technology of the Ministry of Agriculture, and 9 provincial-level platforms. The Irradiation Center is equipped with a cobalt-60 device with an installed source capacity of 500,000 curies. It also has a dose monitoring room and microbiology testing room and is involved in the “National Dose Assurance Service (DNAS) System”, having passed ISO 9001 certification. The Irradiation Center primarily utilizes Cobalt-60 to provide radiation processing, radiation breeding, and new product research and technology development services to research institutes, universities, and enterprises in Hubei Province.
