The Institute of Agricultural Quality Standards and Testing Technology of the Hubei Academy of Agricultural Sciences (HBAAS) was established in 1980, becoming one of the first nine testing institutes set up by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs nationwide. The institute focuses primarily on the research of agricultural product quality and safety standards, testing technology, risk assessment, quality analysis, traceability, and authenticity determination. It also undertakes the testing of agricultural products, food, soil, fertilizers, agricultural inputs, and the environmental evaluation of agricultural products. The institute provides scientific and technological consulting services, along with testing and evaluation services for agricultural products and the agricultural environment.
The institute has 4 administrative departments and 5 research departments: the Agricultural Quality Standard Research Department, Agricultural Environment Research Department, Agricultural and Veterinary Drug Residues Research Department, Agricultural Products Quality Research Department, and Agricultural Inputs Research Department. The laboratory area spans 4,480m².
Additionally, the institute has two provincial and ministerial-level scientific research and innovation platforms: the Risk Assessment Laboratory for Agricultural Product Quality and Safety of MARA (Wuhan), and the Hubei Key Laboratory of Agricultural Product Nutritional Quality and Safety. Other notable platforms include the Food Quality Supervision, Inspection, and Testing Center of MARA (Wuhan), Pesticide Registration and Testing Unit of MARA, Nutritional Quality Evaluation and Appraisal Organization of National Famous, Specialty, New, and Quality Agricultural Products, the National Agricultural Product Quality and Safety Popularization Demonstration Base, Hubei Food Quality Supervision, Inspection, and Testing Center (Wuhan), Hubei Pesticide and Agricultural Product Safety and Quality Supervision and Inspection Station, the Third Soil Census Quality Control Laboratory, Hubei Science Popularization Education Base, and other testing and technical service platforms.
The institute holds inspection and testing qualifications approved by the General Administration of Market Supervision of the People’s Republic of China and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs (MARA). It has also been recognized as a food re-inspection agency and is actively involved in long-term pesticide residue testing, national rice varieties regional testing, rice quality testing, and environmental monitoring, among other scientific and technological services.
