Institute of Biotechnology

The Institute of Biotechnology of Guizhou Academy of Agricultural Sciences is mainly engaged in the selection and breeding of new crop varieties, cell culture and tissue culture rapid propagation technology for crops, medicinal and other plants, extraction technology for effective ingredients from medicinal plants, and basic research on the positioning, transgenic development, and utilization of excellent genes in crops, animals, and organisms. It also provides related technical training and consulting services. The institute primarily conducts research on root and tuber crops such as potatoes, sweet potatoes, yams, and Rhizoma Dioscoreae, as well as food processing.

The institute’s research focuses on agricultural biotechnology and food processing. Research is tailored to the practical needs of Guizhou’s agricultural production, agricultural structural adjustments, and market economic development, with agricultural biotechnology and food processing as the core directions. The institute works on the selection and breeding of new crop varieties, crop, medicinal, and other plant cell culture and tissue culture rapid propagation technology, medicinal plant effective ingredient extraction technology, and basic research on positioning, transgenics, and development and utilization of excellent genes in crops, animals, and organisms. It also focuses on food processing, storage, transportation, and analysis and testing technology research, the development and promotion of staple food products, leisure food, functional food, microbial application technologies, as well as new technology and product demonstration and promotion. The institute offers related technical training, popular science education, and domestic and foreign technical exchanges and cooperation.
