The Institute of Biotechnology and Nuclear Technology of the Sichuan Academy of Agricultural Sciences was established in 1960. The institute houses several key centers, including the Biotechnology Breeding Engineering Center, Intellectual Property and Achievements Transformation Center, Plant Growth Regulator Research Center, Agricultural Nuclear Technology Research and Application Center, Crop Mutation Breeding Research Center, and Biotechnology Breeding and Resource Research Center.
The institute primarily focuses on basic research and technological innovation in areas such as biological breeding, radiation mutagenesis, aerospace mutagenesis, and agrochemical technology. It conducts molecular detection and bioinformatics analysis of germplasm resources, molecular breeding, and new variety selection. The research also covers radiation technology, agrochemical products, and the development of key problem solutions and standards.
In addition, the institute offers technical services such as genetic engineering, radiation applications, planning consulting, science and technology training, science popularization, and the transformation of achievements. It is also involved in the transfer of new plant varieties, patents, and other intellectual property rights. The institute currently operates three provincial and ministerial-level innovation platforms: the National and Local Joint Engineering Laboratory for Comprehensive Straw Biological Utilization Technology, the Sichuan Provincial Crop Molecular Breeding Platform, and the Sichuan Provincial Crop Aerospace Mutation Breeding Technology Engineering Laboratory.
