Institute of Crop Research

The Crop Research Institute of Gansu Academy of Agricultural Sciences (GAAS) was established in September 1958. The Institute aims to serve the development of the modern seed industry in the province. It is mainly engaged in the collection and preservation of crop germplasm resources, innovative utilization research, basic research on genetic improvement technology and application, new variety selection and supporting cultivation technology research, as well as the transformation of results, scientific and technological services, talent training, and scientific and technological training. The institute has 9 professional research laboratories, including those for corn, sesame, rapeseed, sunflower, cotton, grains, beans, sorghum, and variety resources, as well as 1 crop genetic breeding laboratory.

It currently has 6 national and provincial scientific research platforms, including the Sesame Branch of the National Oil Crop Improvement Center, the National Millet Improvement Branch Center Technology Platform System, the Characteristic Oil Scientific Observation Station, the Crop Genetic Resources and Germplasm Innovation Scientific Observation Station, the MARA Northwest Cold and Arid Region Crop Genetic Resources and Germplasm Innovation Key Laboratory, the National Sesame Industry Technology System R&D Center, and the Gansu Sesame Engineering Center, as well as 1 provincial crop germplasm resource storage bank. The institute currently has 67 employees.
