The Institute of Crop Variety Resources (Institute of Modern Chinese Medicinal Materials) of Guizhou Academy of Agricultural Sciences was established in September 2008.
It is primarily engaged in the collection and protection of Chinese medicinal resources, such as medicinal plants and edible fungi, as well as genetic breeding and cultivation technology. The institute also focuses on industrial development and comprehensive utilization research. It conducts extensive research on the collection, preservation, evaluation, and innovative utilization of grain and oil crop germplasm resources, along with genetic diversity evaluation, safe preservation technology research, and the development of a database and information sharing platform.
The institute has set up research laboratories for grain crop germplasm resources, oil crop germplasm resources, Chinese medicinal materials, fungi, and germplasm preservation and utilization. It has also established important research and development platforms, including the Guiyang Scientific Observation Station for Crop Genetic Resources and Germplasm Creation of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, the Guiyang Branch of the Plant New Variety Testing Center (DUS) of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, and the Guizhou Research and Development Base of the National Edible Fungi Engineering Technology Research Center.
