The Horticultural Research Institute of Guizhou Academy of Agricultural Sciences is located in Xiaohe District, Guiyang City, the capital of Guizhou Province. It was established in 1979. The main objectives are: to collect, preserve, utilize, and innovate the resources of vegetables, fruit trees, and flowers; to focus on variety selection and breeding; to research and promote high-quality, high-yield, and high-efficiency cultivation technology; to strengthen scientific and technological exchanges and cooperation both at home and abroad; and to train practical technical personnel to promote farmers’ income growth and the sustainable development of the horticultural industry in Guizhou. The institute has departments for Vegetable Research, Fruit Tree Research, Flower Research, and a Comprehensive Experimental Research Center. There are 60 employees.
The institute carries out the selection and breeding of new varieties of fruit trees, vegetables, and flowers, introduction of new technologies, research on new technologies, regional trials of varieties, collection, collation, preservation, and utilization of varieties of resources, demonstration and promotion of new varieties, new technologies, new products, technical training, technical consulting services, scientific and technological exchanges and cooperation at home and abroad, special agricultural and sustainable development of agriculture, application of high and new technology in breeding, high-yield and ultra-high-yield cultivation, pollution-free, green and organic food cultivation technology, and the industrialization, production, processing, preservation, storage, and transportation of horticultural products.
