Institute of Horticulture

The Institute of Horticulture at Zhejiang Academy of Agricultural Sciences (ZAAS) developed from its predecessor, the Horticultural Improvement Farm at the Zhejiang A&F Improvement Institute founded in 1936, which focused on citrus-centered fruit and vegetable research, introduction, and extension. The institute, with its three disciplinary areas, has conducted resource collection, evaluation, and new cultivar breeding of various crops including pear, bayberry, grape, peach, loquat, kiwifruit, strawberry, blueberry, cherry, plum, mushroom, lingzhi, orchid, chrysanthemum, and lily. It has established field genebanks for pear, grape, and orchid in its 20-hectare research base, preserving over 3,000 accessions of germplasm resources.
