The Institute of Hydrobiology at Zhejiang Academy of Agricultural Sciences (ZAAS) was founded in 2019 and became an independent institute in 2021. It conducts basic and applied research in genetic breeding and cultivation of aquatic life, disease prevention and control, fishery resources protection and utilization, fishery environment monitoring and restoration, and digital fishery. The institute aims to meet the strategic needs for green development in fisheries, eco-environment protection, and the conservation and utilization of aquatic life.
The institute releases new cultivars and technologies and provides consultancy and training services. It has 36 employees and has established joint programs for graduate student training. Major achievements include scaled breeding of little yellow croakers, fine cherax cultivar breeding, stream fish rearing in mountainous regions, and Pelodiscus disease control.
